All this with his wife and daughter, living in the middle of Manhattan. Colin is here at Wild & Scenic to share his film, book and experience ... but in his workshop, he wants to hear from you. What can each of us do to make a difference?  Participate in this community forum, share your ideas, and let’s make a plan to change the world.  http://noimpactproject.org/

Culture and Adventure … Authentic Companions?
1:45pm-2:45pm
Join Patagonia Ambassador, Majka Burhardt, for global lessons learned in Namibia, Africa
In May 2009, Majka Burhardt led a small team of rock climbers into a landscape of translucent scorpions, laser sharp granite cracks, two meter-long cobra tracks, and the Himba people–one of the last great Southern African pastoral tribes. They were looking for not only a first ascent, but also a cultural connection. Namibia is Africa’s newest independent country and was the first country in the world to mandate conservation in its constitution. How does adventure complement, and conflict with, environmental understanding? See Majka in the film, Way Point Namibia on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. www.majkaburhardt.com

The Future of Our Oceans
4:15pm-5:15pm
Join Jon Bowermaster as he explores the state of our oceans
Over the past five hundred years humans have taken from the ocean as if it was an unlimited resource. The result: the World Wildlife Fund predicts that by 2012 the last bluefin tuna will be caught and by 2050 all of the fish species we currently know will be gone. Jon’s explorations during the past twenty years have taken him around the world, exploring the health of the world’s oceans and the lives of people who depend on them. From Vietnam to Gabon, the Adriatic to Chile, over fishing is impacting every coastline, and every people. www.jonbowermaster.com

ACTIVIST CENTER 2 - FOOD FORUM

Nevada City Elementary, 415 Main Street

SATURDAY, 9:00AM - 5:00PM - FREE TO THE PUBLIC

At the Confluence of Energy, Food and Water
9am-10am
A Conversation with Brock Dolman

There’s an environmental crisis around every bend, yet there are solutions that can counter the unsustainable food, energy and water policies that threaten California bioregions. The WATER Institute at Occidental Arts and Ecology Center has been pioneering the fields of Conservation Hydrology, Permaculture, and site-specific energy production for decades. Brock Dolman, director of The WATER Institute and 2009 Bioneers Plenary Speaker, will wax poetic and practical upon the watershed movement at this watershed moment.  In conversation with SYRCL executive director Jason Rainey, Brock will share how his groundbreaking Basins of Relations program is weaving a regenerative place-based bioregionalism in the North Coast … and its application to the Greater Yuba watershed. (Brock is also featured in the film, Call of Life on Sunday morning in the Nevada Theatre.) www.oaecwater.org

The Future of Food
11:15am-12:15pm
Panel led by UC Davis Professor, Roger Ingram
Nevada County agricultural trends mirror state and national trends. According to Ag Census data, 35% of farms are operated by people 65 years of age or older, while 3% of farms are operated by people under 35. The challenges: keeping existing farms in operation and attracting a new generation of farmers. This workshop will provide information and ideas on meeting these twin challenges. This presentation will feature a panel of local innovative farmers who are staying viable and attracting a new generation to agriculture. http://animalscience.ucdavis.edu/FarmAdvisors/Ingram/

Why Organic?
4:14pm-5:15pm
