At SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival, we show environmental and adventure films that illustrate the earth’s beauty, the challenges facing our planet, and the work communities are doing to protect the environment. Through these films, Wild & Scenic both informs people about the state of the world and inspires them to take action.
The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) who produces the festival, seeks cutting-edge and provocative films about a wide variety of topics including, nature, community activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, and indigenous cultures.
“2018 is an especially remarkable year, as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act—the namesake of our festival.” says Festival Director, Melinda Booth. “While our programming will be as diverse as always, we are curating content to celebrate this milestone and encourage films featuring rivers to be submitted.”
Eleven “Yubie” awards are given each year in the following categories:
Best of Festival
Spirit of Activism
Most Inspiring Adventure Film
Best in Theme
Best Short Short
Jury Award (x2)
John de Graaf Environmental Filmmaking Award
Best Children’s Film
