Due to the current EPIC storm we are experiencing in California and the Flood levels of the Lower Yuba river peaking at 80,000 cfs yesterday, we will be moving the River to Reel this Friday the 13th to the safety of land! We will head out on a hike just outside of Nevada City with the possibility of a short paddle on Englebright Reservoir later in the day (if it is not spilling). See below for new details!. Sunday, January 15, 11am

Join Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT) for this three-mile Sunday morning stroll exploring Hirschman Trail and Pond. Located a mile from the heart of downtown Nevada City, this lovely trail tells the story of environmentally damaging Gold Rush hydraulic mining and how nature heals itself over time. The trail’s centerpiece is Hirschman’s Pond named after the pioneer miners and merchants, the Hirschman brothers. The first 0.4 mile is constructed to ADA standards, providing access for people of all mobility levels. At the pond, we’ll look for wildlife such as waterfowl, turtles and otter. Along the hike we’ll learn lore of the land and identify native plants found in the mixed conifer forest and meadows of this important public open space. Moderate difficulty.  Meet at the trailhead on Cement Hill Road; on the right just up from the intersection with Hwy 49. Learn more:; 272-5994 x 211
