Making Your Film Daydreams a Reality

It’s February. Do you know what that means?

  1. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival has very recently wrapped (and our staff has begun to catch up on sleep)
  2. The 2018 Wild & Scenic On Tour season is off and running
  3. The film library will be open by the end of the month (hold tight – we know how eager you are to check out the films you may have missed at this year’s fest! Stay tuned for an exact release date.)
  4. Ski season

Do you know what all of these things have in common? Imagination! No, not like that thing you use to visualize stuff that doesn’t really exist. But the 2018 Wild & Scenic Official Selection and inaugural Staff Pick:

Imagination: Tom Wallisch

Dave Mossop, Sherpas Cinema | 2017 | 5 min.

This year’s very first Staff Pick takes on the perspective of a kid sitting in the back seat of his parent’s car. While he’s distractedly listening to them argue about…things adults argue about, his daydreams begin to come to life as pro skiier Tom Wallisch shreds the snowy streets and sidewalks surrounding them. If this short doesn’t get you in the mood to hit the slopes, we don’t know what will! We all know those moments – you’re at the office staring out the window thinking about your weekend climbing adventure, or you’re cooking dinner imagining the dutch oven recipes you’ll dazzle friends with on your upcoming camping trip.

Through truly amazing cinematography and ridiculous, gravity-defying stunts, Imagination will definitely bring out the adventurous, imaginative, little kid in you. What daydreams do you find yourself having that you could turn into a reality?

Imagination joins about 70 other Wild & Scenic films as they travel the globe to over 170 locations with our On Tour program. February 1 kicked off the 2018 Tour season, and this one promises to be bigger and better than ever, reaching over 50,000 people worldwide.

If you’re nearby the South Yuba River Citizen League office, you’ll also have the opportunity to borrow this film plus over 100 other titles from this year’s festival in our film library, which will be released at the end of the month. The exact date is soon to be determined, so keep an eye out for news of the release! You must be an active SYRCL member to check out a film. Rentals are free for members. Not sure if you are a member? While you wait until the last of the month rolls around, you can call or email Alena Loomis at 530-265-5961 ext 220 to check your membership status. If you know you aren’t a current member or simply need to renew, visit Membership and sign up.

This month’s Staff Pick was brought to you by Festival Liaison, Jess Swigonski.
