Haute Trash Artists Collaborative is a Nevada City based 501c3 Non Profit. Since their humble beginnings at the Nevada Theater in the 1980’s, Haute Trash has presented hundreds of recycled fashion shows all around the country, from small community events like SYRCL’s Annual Yuba River Clean-up party, to elaborate productions in cities like Seattle and San Diego. Haute Trash has been a constant inspiration to eco-conscious audiences, fashion designers and models for over three decades, They have partnered with many sustainable and forward-thinking ecological organizations, and continue to seek out opportunities to educate young people about caring for and protecting our environment. Through their art, they hope to transform the way you see the world. Why THROW it out? WEAR it out!
Your grandmother’s afghans as you’ve never seen them before….Lord von Schmitt wandered the planet in search of intelligent life for years, before learning to knit. After 7 years at the needles–he barely did anything else–Lord von Schmitt flashed on the possibilities of Previously Crocheted Objects. These were everywhere in the form of afghan blankets, languishing forgotten in thrift stores. He put down the needles and never picked them up again. With a sewing machine he could move much faster, with scissors he could build forms, the material was wonderful and flexible and repulsive. An old lady came up to him and said “those are the most hideous pants I’ve ever seen in my life,” to which he replied, “oh thanks. I made them myself.”
We’re thrilled to announce that David Vassar will be joining us at the 15th Anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. David is an Oscar®-nominated and Emmy®-winning writer and director with more than 30 years of experience. His films have been seen by millions on broadcast and cable television, on-line streaming, at film festivals around the world and in museums and National Park visitor centers.
At Wild & Scenic, David will present a live multi-media presentation exploring the source of inspiration for environmental films and how the idea becomes a cinematic experience that can move an audience to action. Many of David’s films have presented environmental issues that were far ahead of the popular zeitgeist and off the radar of the larger culture. During this presentation of clips from his most memorable films, David will provide the backstory – at times personal, at times technical, and at times anecdotal – sharing memories of behind-the-camera moments. It’s a look back at his catalog of work and the evolution of what a ‘Green Film’ was and has become.
