Staff Pick: Dream Day

Today marks the end of an era at Wild & Scenic. This year, we had our first ever intern! Hayden started with us just a week before January’s film fest and was an invaluable member of the team, pre, during and post fest. Since then, she’s been helping out with other SYRCL fundraisers and events and has been a joy to have in the office every day. We’re super sad to see her go, stoked that she chose to work with us to complete her internship, and proud that she’s about to become a graduate of Chico State! Choosing Hayden as this month’s staff member to pick a favorite from the 2017 fest was a no-brainer. Thanks to Hayden for all of her hard work and good luck on your next adventure!

Dream Day

Many people consider their dream days to include being able to ski on the freshest powder, surf the best waves, or rock climb and mountain bike with clear blue skies. If only it could be possible to have enough time to fulfill all of those dreams in one day. Well, four elite athletes, from different extreme sport backgrounds, come together to challenge one another to fit all of these dreams into one ‘Dream Day’ and make it a reality.

This movie appealed to me when I learned it started off in the mountains of Truckee, California, a town very close to home and where I spent a lot of my childhood snow days. It then hooked me as the scenes unfolded –  showing the diversity of California’s landscape and the variety of recreational opportunities that can be accomplished all in one day. I have always admired people who are able to rock climb, ski, and surf, but been somewhat intimidated by these sports, worried more about being good at them and less about just getting after it. Well that’s no way to live because you have to start somewhere! That’s why I loved Dream Day. Each of these stellar athletes show their own vulnerabilities when it comes to an unfamiliar challenge and what do they do? They go for it, regardless of their skill level. All that matters is your willingness and attitude towards that challenge. It made me realize that whatever challenges come up in life, you just gotta get out there and try. Everyone starts somewhere, and I am fortunate enough to live in this beautiful place with these opportunities right in my backyard.

Dream Day was a 2017 Official Selection. It is currently in our Film Library and available to borrow if you’re an active SYRCL member.
