There are many different ways to get involved at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities and what each job entails. Final evening shifts include assistance with Cleanup. Please note, volunteer positions with an asterisk require training before the festival.
Must be 21 or older to work the bar. Help serve beer, wine, snacks, & popcorn at the bar, as well as keep the space clean, tidy, & well-stocked for future shifts. Quick Tip: This position is for someone who likes to be in a fast-paced environment. This job requires standing on your feet for extended periods of time. All tips collected while on shift are donations for SYRCL. More info.
Seeking strong volunteers to life heavy items; stack chairs & tables; load equipment; transport & help unload at the SYRCL office. We will clean, sweep, & vacuum. If you have a truck available for use during this time, your help would be greatly appreciated! More info.
Must be 21 or older to volunteer for the Filmmaker Lounge. Support the Venue Coordinator in setting up, stocking, & maintaining food/beverage stations. Be a resource for our guests by answering questions —know about the festival & our community. Help tidy the lounge & restroom. In addition, screen access to the lounge. Filmmakers, staff, contractors, & guests with VIP access credentials only may visit the lounge. More info.
Greet our special guests and make them feel welcome! Volunteers will be distributing filmmaker packets and answering questions about the festival and area. More info.
Seeking friendly, insured volunteers with clean driving records to shuttle filmmakers to and from Sacramento and Nevada City. Shuttle service will be the filmmaker or special guest’s first or last interaction with the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. Help us give a warm welcome or farewell to the artists and activists who bring such dynamism to the festival. Quick Tip: Exact times will be determined as we get closer to the festival. Help us reduce landfill waste by educating attendees about compost, recycling, & trash. Maintain tidy greening station by unloading full canisters. Allison Miller, the festival Greening Manager, will provide training. She may also ask for additional assistance. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. More info.

This position is for volunteers 21+ only. Seeking volunteers to help staff the door, sell tickets, check identification, bar-tend, & cleanup at the Late Night Dance Party. This is a fast-paced, job. All tips collected at the bar will be donated to the South Yuba

The WSFF Media Lounge serves as the hub for press, filmmakers and special guests. The media lounge includes a media reception on Friday, January 13 from 5pm-7pm and a live broadcast along with live-streamed interviews with filmmakers and special guests throughout the weekend. Assist with setup, the opening media reception, and the Media Lounge. The Media Lounge team, led by Elisa Parker, is also responsible for checking-in guests and press, posting on social media, capturing photos, texting guests before their interview, lounge upkeep and set-up, and take down. Must be 21 or older to volunteer for the Opening Reception. The Opening Reception kicks off the Wild & Scenic weekend. Help serve light hors d’oeuvres, beer, & wine. Help set up serving tables, restock as necessary, maintain a tidy space, & assist with cleanup. More info.
Greet the public at the venue doors & check attendees’ tickets. Help with crowd control at popular screenings, maintain quiet in
the areas outside the film-viewing area, & change “Now Playing” signs as needed. Pass Checkers work at all film screening venues. SYRCL seeks assertive, polite volunteers to staff busy Friday & Saturday evening sessions at the Miners Foundry & Nevada Theatre. More info.
We are looking for friendly folks to answer the phone in the office on the first day of the Film Festival. This position is ideal for someone who is familiar with the festival and both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Volunteers will help field questions about where to purchase tickets, where to park, where to stay, etc. More info.
Greet teachers and students at the door. Lead groups into the theater and usher them to their seats. Safely help escort school groups back to their buses. Assist Megan with any other additional duties. More info.
Help assist the Wild & scenic Film Festival as a security volunteer. Security volunteers ensure that only ticket holders are permitted at festival entrances and exits. This position is needed at the Miners Foundry, the Wild & Scenic Gala (10PM- 2AM), and the Late Night Dance Party (10PM-2AM). More info.
Seeking strong volunteers to help us set up each film venue. This role will involve loading, unloading, carrying supplies, & setting up hundreds of chairs. This work is physical & may involved moving very heavy items. Setup volunteers will move from venue to venue on foot. Quick Tip: This position happens rain or shine–please dress accordingly. SYRCL Outreach Booths are highly visible points of contact for festival attendees to learn more about SYRCL, ask questions, become

We seek tech savvy volunteers to manage the audio mixer levels in sync with our Ki-Pro units to deliver a glitch-free, professional film presentation. Ki-Pro untis are hard drive recorders & playback devices. Tech 2 volunteers work in collaboration with Tech Leads. Seeking volunteers comfortable with computers & gadgets. This position is recommended for volunteers who have experience with video games or handling VR headsets. Volunteers will help set up & manage the lounge, staff a booth w/ an HTC Vive or Oculus device, ensure the safety of equipment, offer guidance as needed, & breakdown & pack up. More info.
Sell festival tickets and passes. Quick Tip: This position requires proficiency on a computer and tablet. This is a customer-service position that interacts with dozens, if not hundreds, of festival goers each shift. Welcome, offer assistance, and track open seats for guests who are arriving. Help guide attendees to their seats with a flashlight in especially dark venues. Encourage attendees to scoot in to make room for people arriving later. Turn the lights on/off between MC’s, Speakers and films. Communicate with the two TECHs running the video & audio equipment.
