What’s New At Wild & Scenic This January?

The 2017 Wild & Scenic Film Festival is gearing up to be bigger and better than ever. This January we’ll be celebrating our 15th Anniversary of inspiring activism in the environmental movement. New pass options, a brand new film screening venue, the 2017 Festival Headquarters location revealed, exciting Special Events and a few changes to some of your favorite programs.

 

tom-gary-thumbnailARTS & THE ENVIRONMENT: A SPECIAL EVENING WITH GARY SNYDER AND TOM KILLION
Gary Snyder & Tom Killion will present an evening of film, conversation and poetry focused on the role arts play in the environmental movement. This special ticketed event is happening on Saturday, January 14th, 7pm at the Del Oro Theatre in Grass Valley. Upgrade your evening to include a pre-event VIP Meet & Greet reception with Gary & Tom.

To celebrate Gary Snyder, Tom Killion and the 15th Anniversary of Wild & Scenic, we’re offering a stunning, limited collector’s edition, letterpressed broadside featuring Gary Snyder’s poem For All and Tom Killion’s print, Kaweah Lake. Signed by both Snyder and Killion the edition is limited to 250 and will be available to purchase starting Dec 1st for $150. All proceeds benefit SYRCL.


methodist-church-fellowship-hall-entranceA NEW NEVADA CITY VENUE! 
Welcome to our newest venue, the Fellowship Hall in downtown Nevada City. Conveniently located at the back of the Methodist Church with a private entrance on Mill Street, this intimate 84 seat venue will host a total of 5 film sessions over the weekend. Fun fact: The present structure is a Historic Point of Interest and was built and dedicated in 1864. It was also one of the buildings featured in the Hallmark holiday film, The Christmas Card.

 

tixMORE TICKETING OPTIONS! In addition to full festival passes and individual session tickets, we’re introducing both a Saturday and a Sunday All Day Pass. These 2 new pass options include all regular film sessions in your choice of Grass Valley or Nevada City venue, on the specified day. A great new option if you can only join us for one full weekend day.

 

artART STROLLS! We partnered with Nevada County Arts again this year to bring some of the best environmental art to Wild & Scneic. Come out and hit the streets to enjoy the winners of the juried art contest at 6 locations each in downtown Nevada City and Grass Valley – it’s a great way to get to learn the lay of the land in each town during the festival!

 

reiki-buddhaFESTIVAL HEADQUARTERS ANNOUNCED! We are happy to present this year’s Wild & Scenic Festival Headquarters – the Reiki Kitchen, located at 315 Commercial Street! Located in the historic Chinese Quarter area of downtown Nevada City, this event space will be the Nevada City hub of Wild & Scenic festivities.  Grass Valley will again have it’s own Mini-HQ at the Center for the Arts, with all of the same info, ticket sales, merch and friendly locals you’ve come to love at Wild & Scenic!

 

camp-thumbnailNEW LODGING IN NEVADA CITY!  Traveling to the fest and looking for a truly unique stay in Nevada City? New this year, festival sponsor the Inn Town Campground is open for business! They have a variety of RV spaces to meet your needs and are within walking distance to downtown Nevada City. Or, check in with one of our other Featured Lodging Hosts. They’ll be playing host to visiting filmmakers and special guests all weekend.

But this isn’t all! Most of our additional special programming is returning again in 2017! Favorites like the opening receptions, art in many downtown businesses, activist workshops, coffee talks, music, parties and more. We will be announcing the 2017 Official Selection films in early December so stay tuned. Tickets for the 2017 Film Festival go on sale December 1st!
